We remember every deployed soldier, veterans and their families.

The Algoma Veterans Association (AVA) is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to supporting veterans in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma region. Founded and led by veterans, our mission is to assist fellow service members in navigating the challenges of transitioning to civilian life, addressing both visible and invisible wounds of service.
Our group provides peer support, community engagement opportunities, aid resources, mentorship, education, a friendly ear, and physical and financial assistance to these members and their families.
The Algoma Veterans Association (AVA) was founded in 2017 by Frank Iezzi, a veteran of the Royal Canadian Airforce and a lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie. Recognizing the challenges that many veterans face when transitioning to civilian life, Iezzi established the AVA as a volunteer-driven, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting fellow service members in the Algoma region. Under his leadership, the AVA has become a vital resource for veterans, offering assistance in accessing benefits, healthcare, and other essential services. Beyond individual support, the association actively engages with the community through events like the annual Red Friday Golf Tournament, which raises funds and awareness for veterans' needs. Through these efforts, the AVA continues to uphold its mission of "Veterans Helping Veterans," fostering a network of support and camaraderie among those who have served.
